The outfielder tied a Mets record with nine RBIs against the Nationals on Monday, tying Carlos Delgado’s 2008 mark in a 19-5 win.
Nimmo’s bonanza began in the sixth inning with a three-run homer off Colin Poche, continued with a grand slam the following inning off Cole Henry, and then added a two-run double in the eighth inning at Nationals Park.
The high day contributed to what was a 15-0 Mets lead after eight.
“These days don’t come very often — it’s taken me nine years,” he told SNY. “Like you said, that’s really cool, tie a franchise record. You just enjoy days like this. One of the reasons that you play baseball. It can be so frustrating at some times but so rewarding at others. … Really special day, really special moment.”

“I was happy for him, but I was thinking, oh man, this’ll be really cool, come up, see if I can get a couple more RBIs and get over the top,” Nimmo said. “I didn’t know I was sitting tying with the record, didn’t know I needed one more. I was thinking, oh man, here’s we go, runners in scoring position, let me see if I can get over top of 10. That would have been very cool. But also very happy for Vientos.”
