Bryce Harper knows the end is coming. Definitely of the season, perhaps of his Nationals tenure.

The star outfielder is 10 games from a playoff-less season finishing and 10 games from free agency. Harper is embarking on what is likely his final seven games wearing a Nationals uniform at Nationals Park, four against the Mets beginning Thursday and then three with the Marlins.

Harper has dodged questions about his free agency all year, insisting it is not on his mind, that it’s a hurdle he’ll clear when he gets there. With the finish line (and starting line) approaching, Harper admitted he knows this could be the end in Washington.

“I haven’t really thought about it,” Harper told the Washington Post on Tuesday. “I think it’ll really hit that last game I guess, running off the field or something like that. I’m just trying to enjoy it and see what happens.”

According to the most recent odds released by Bovada, the Cubs are the favorites to land the 25-year-old, followed by the Dodgers, Yankees and Phillies. The Nationals come in at No. 5.

His contract year has not been ideal, for himself or his team. The Nationals are out of the playoff picture and Harper is hitting just .247 (albeit with a .395 on-base percentage and 34 home runs). He will get his mega-deal with agent Scott Boras on his side.

“[Nothing’s been different] for me [this season]. For me, I’ve just been trying to enjoy my last year in D.C., if that’s how it’s going to happen,” Harper said. “Like I’ve said all along, I love D.C. I love being here. I love being a part of this organization. We’ll see if I’m in those plans or not going forward, but for me, at the beginning of the year, I want to enjoy my last year if it’s going to be like that.”
