Bryan Harper, the older brother of Washington Nationals star Bryce, is once again a step away from joining his brother in the big leagues.

On Monday, Bryan received his second call-up in the past calendar year to the Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate, the Syracuse Chiefs.

Bryan, a left-handed relief pitcher, tossed four innings for the Chiefs at the end of the 2015 season, and this year posted a 1.50 ERA and six saves in 24 innings for Double-A Harrisburg. Harper did not allow a run in 16 of his 20 appearances.

“I’m just trying to create a name for myself. That’s always been my goal,” Bryan told Syracuse.com in September. “With me coming to the same organization as him, I had to create my own name. The organization has been good enough to me where they respect me as my own ballplayer. I really appreciate that. I just come in, work hard, keep my mouth shut and just go about it the right way.

“Obviously, I’m a 30th-round guy. I’m not going to light up the radar gun or anything like that. I’m going to go out there and get outs and put up zeros. That’s the biggest thing with me. I just want to grind and I’ve always been a grinder.”

In his first outing for Syracuse this season, Harper threw one scoreless inning on Monday to bring his season ERA down to 1.44 and lower his WHIP to an impressive 0.76. The 26-year-old was drafted twice by the Nationals, out of high school in 2008 — he opted not to to sign — and then again in 2011 after playing at South Carolina.

Bryce, the reigning National League MVP, was taken No. 1 by Washington in the 2010 draft and is the face of the franchise.
