A couple of pitching names to watch in the Mets’ system for the stretch run: Ambiorix Burgos and Robert Parnell. Burgos (pictured) continued his comeback from last year’s Tommy John surgery by throwing one scoreless inning today for the Gulf Coast Mets. Burgos is famous for his 100 mph fastball and for having nearly $300,000 in jewelry briefly stolen from his hotel room in spring training this year. Parnell, meanwhile, was promoted to Triple-A New Orleans after compiling a 10-6 record and 4.30 ERA in 24 starts for Double-A Binghamton.
