DETROIT — Robinson Cano is back in the Yankees lineup Tuesday after missing Monday’s season opener against the Tigers with a bruised left hand.
Cano suffered a bone bruise on the left palm Sunday when he was handcuffed by an Ivan Nova pickoff throw at second base.
“There is a lot less pain,’’ Cano said after testing the hand with a batting practice in the indoor cage.
Cano had played in 26 of the first 27 games.
“I don’t like watching the game, I was bored,’’ Cano said.
Nick Swisher is sitting out Tuesday so Andruw Jones can play right field against Tigers righty Brad Penny.
Mariano Rivera also will get the night off.
“Mariano is on sabbatical,’’ Joe Girardi said of his closer who posted saves Saturday, Sunday and Monday. “Hopefully, a short one. He will argue to pitch but we told him to take the day off.’’
Tuesday’s Yankees lineup:
