Second baseman Robinson Cano, who was hit in the head by a pitch and left Wednesday’s game, is in the Yankees starting lineup for Thursday night’s game against the Royals.
Cano passed a battery of tests that showed no symptoms of a concussion.
“It was scary but the good thing is I never felt dizzy or anything like that,” Cano said.
Royals reliever Nathan Adcock beaned Cano in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s game with a fastball that hit Cano in the batting helmet just to the right of the Yankees logo. He was removed from the game and sent for a CAT scan and other tests that all came back negative.
Cano saw a neurologist Thursday, who pronounced him ready to play. The biggest decision for Cano was whether to wear a special protective helmet.
“I don’t know if I’m going to wear that,” Cano said. “I don’t want to look like [Francisco] Cervelli.”
Cervelli used to wear the oversized helmet after he suffered a concussion, but Cano said it is very heavy.
