Reunited and it felt so … brief.

The Cardinals’ social media team was apparently left in the dark Thursday when it tweeted about Nolan Arenado and Dexter Fowler reuniting in St. Louis, after the club had acquired Arenado in a blockbuster trade earlier in the week.

Less than six hours after the tweet went out from the team’s official Twitter account, the reunion was officially over. The Cardinals traded Fowler to the Angels for cash or a player to be named later in a salary dump on Thursday night.

That led to Twitter users poking some fun at the Cardinals’ tweet, including some that pointed out the real reunion was between Fowler and Angels manager Joe Maddon, who were together on the Cubs in 2015 and 2016. Together, they helped win the Cubs’ first World Series title since 1908, with Fowler hitting a leadoff home run in the decisive Game 7 against the Indians.

Arenado and Fowler, meanwhile, had been teammates on the Rockies in 2013. Both were drafted by Colorado, but after Arenado’s rookie season, Fowler was traded away to the Astros.

Fowler had been with the Cardinals since 2017, but three days after they officially announced they had landed Arenado from the Rockies, they sent Fowler packing.
