CC Sabathia made it eight starts before his knee complained.
The big left-hander is going on the injured list, the Yankees announced Thursday, with right knee inflammation, a day after he labored through five innings in a 7-5 win over Baltimore.
Aaron Boone said the knee — the same one that has bothered Sabathia for years — was “barking,” and the 38-year-old made it through 88 pitches, allowing five runs (four earned), before he had to bow out.
“It makes it hard to land,” Sabathia said after the game. “It’s a shooting pain that goes through me every time. It makes it hard to finish pitches.”
In a year that has claimed so many Yankees, with Luis Severino still yet to pitch and James Paxton missing a few starts, Sabathia is the latest.
“We’ve had so many injuries,” he said. “Everybody’s had to do what they can to make up for that and do our part.”
