Utility player Jayson Nix will start in left field for Yankees in Kansas City on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series with the Royals.
The Yankees are calling up Nix, 29, from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes/Barre, where he was 7-for-30 with four RBIs.
The Yankees put Eric Chavez on the 7-day concussion disabled list. Chavez left Wednesday night’s game with whiplash and concussion symptoms suffered diving for J.J. Hardy’s double down the third-base line in the loss to the Orioles.
The Yankees moved reliever Joba Chamberlain to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Nix on the 40-man roster.
The Yankees signed Nix to a minor-league deal in November; he also played for the Rockies, White Sox, Indians and Blue Jays.
