Chicago police are investigating a “shooting incident” that took place at Guaranteed Rate Stadium and left at least on person hospitalized on Friday night, according to multiple reports.
The White Sox took on the A’s, and there were no delays to play as Oakland pulled away with a 12-4 victory.
At least two people were injured in the incident and one was hospitalized, the Chicago-Sun Times reported.
Per the Chicago Tribune, a woman received medical attention for her leg and later walked out of the ballpark with medics.
The incident took place somewhere near the left-field bleachers, according to ABC 7 in Chicago reported.
A message on the main scoreboard at Guaranteed Rate Field announces the cancellation of an 90s concert that was to feature Vanilla Ice, Tone Loc, and Rob Base after the White Sox-As game, won 12-4 by Oakland. APThe White Sox issued the following statement after the game.
“Two fans attending Friday’s game suffered non-life threatening injuries after being struck by bullets,” the statement read. “It is unclear to investigators whether the shots were fired from outside or inside the ballpark. The incident continues to be investigated by Area One detectives from the Chicago Police Department. While the police continue to investigate, White Sox security confirms that this incident did not involve an altercation of any kind.
“The White Sox are thinking of the victims at this time and wishing them a speedy recovery.”
The game ended around 9 p.m.
After the game, the team was supposed to host a 1990s-themed concert featuring Vanilla Ice, Rob Base and Tone Loc, but it was canceled because of what the team called “technical difficulties.”
“Attention Fans. Due to technical issues, tonight’s postgame concert has been canceled,” a message said on the Guaranteed Rate scoreboard.
“We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Fans holding on-field passes will receive a refund to the original purchaser’s credit card.”
