The Red Sox’s 2020 hopes might take another serious hit.

Chris Sale felt soreness in his left elbow after throwing batting practice and the results of his MRI exam were sent to Dr. James Andrews, the doctor who has become synonymous with Tommy John surgery diagnoses.

“Obviously we’re concerned about it,.” manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday.

Sale missed the end of the 2019 season with elbow issues and had a platelet-rich plasma injection in his elbow in August with Andrews. There was optimism around the 30-year-old in follow-up exams.

Sale, 30, signed a five-year, $145 million extension a year ago. The Red Sox traded David Price and Mookie Betts to the Dodgers earlier this offseason and rotation depth could be an issue.
