The Mets’ Bartolo Colon signing became official Saturday after the right-handed pitcher passed a physical and finalized a two-year, $20 million deal.

At 40 years old, Colon is set to become the oldest pitcher in the majors. He joins the Mets coming off two solid seasons in Oakland that were tarnished by a 50-game performance-enhancing drugs suspension.

In 2013, Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 190 ¹/₃ innings. He revived his career in 2011 with the Yankees, when he went 8-10 with a 4.00 ERA after not pitching in the majors the previous season.

Colon, who has 189 career victories, should help offset the loss of Matt Harvey, who will miss the 2014 season following offseason Tommy John surgery. Colon joins Curtis Granderson and the two biggest signings of general manager Sandy Alderson’s tenure with the Mets.
