Here is a look at what the future holds for the Yankees, whose season ended Thursday night against the Tigers in Game 5 of the ALDS.
ROBINSON CANO: The Yankees’ best player was their eighth-highest paid. Club holds $14 million option for 2012 and $15 million for 2013. Expect agent Scott Boras to at least call about a long-term deal.
ERIC CHAVEZ: Productive player may be invited back, but may be considering retirement.
BRETT GARDNER: Had a strong ALDS, but hit .259 with seven homers during regular season — light for an AL outfielder. Likely back, but other teams like him.
CURTIS GRANDERSON: Had MVP-type season and will be a bargain at $10 million next year.
DEREK JETER: Bounced back from the worst season of his career.
ANDRUW JONES: Hit left-handed pitching, which is what he was brought in to do. Might want to see if he can get more playing time elsewhere.
RUSSELL MARTIN: Could have hit better, but because he is arbitration eligible, he should return.
JESUS MONTERO: Should be trade bait again.
EDUARDO NUNEZ: Needs to play more to take advantage of his bat. But where?
JORGE POSADA: Best hitter in the postseason has no role next year. If he wants to play, it will be elsewhere.
ALEX RODRIGUEZ: Needs to play more than the 99 games he played this year. Says hip, knee and thumb are fine. Postseason wasn’t. Has six more years on contract.
NICK SWISHER: A $10.25 million option will be picked up despite a third straight disappointing October.
MARK TEIXEIRA: Signed through 2016. Not going anywhere.
LUIS AYALA: Good numbers, but prefer others.
A.J. BURNETT: All his haters had better get used to seeing him for two more years.
BARTOLO COLON: Squeezed every ounce of juice out of his right arm. Moving on.
FREDDY GARCIA: If he doesn’t get greedy, there is a chance he will return.
PHIL HUGHES: Best spot is bullpen, but Yankees are still blinded by the 18 wins in 2010.
BOONE LOGAN: A bad act in the clubhouse, he was effective on the hill.
IVAN NOVA: Second best starter. Potential 20-game winner.
MARIANO RIVERA: Do you really need to hear more about him?
DAVID ROBERTSON: The Yankees’ best pitcher this season.
CC SABATHIA: Will sign a new deal with the Yankees whether he does or doesn’t opt out.
RAFAEL SORIANO: Can opt out, but won’t. Pitched effectively in the second half.
CORY WADE: Serviceable. Should return.
