(UPDATED) SAN FRANCISCO — As if the Mets didn’t have enough injury concerns, backup infielder Alex Cora left tonight’s game in the third inning due to a sprained right thumb — one day after the veteran suffered the same injury to his left thumb. Cora, who was filling in at shortstop for the injured Jose Reyes (calf tendinitis), hurt his thumb sliding into second base when he led off the game with a double off Giants starter Matt Cain.
Cora was replaced at short by Fernando Tatis, who was playing that position in a major-league game for the first time since Sept. 13, 1998, in Houston as a member of the Cardinals.
