(UPDATED: 10: 45 P.M.) Veteran infielder Alex Cora became the latest Met to go on the disabled list tonight after deciding to have season-ending surgery Thursday on his right thumb.

Cora also has a torn ligament in this left thumb, but e will wait five weeks after the operation on his right thumb to have surgery on the left.

The club did not immediately announce a corresponding roster move. Cora is the 12th player on the Mets’ current DL, as well as the 19th Met this snake-bitten season to spend time on the DL. The well-traveled Cora, who signed as a free agent in the offseason, hit .251 with one homer and 18 RBIs in 82 games in his first season with the Mets.
