PHILADELPHIA — The once-resilient Mets have become the bumbling, stumbling Mets after they looked helpless defensively yet again Saturday in a 4-1 loss here to the Phillies. Two misplayed foul pop-ups in the same inning were the latest glove woes to afflict Jerry Manuel‘s club, which fell two games below .500. Colleague Mike Vaccaro writes that its high time Omar Minaya does something to get his mess of a team back on track.
At least one Met is finally coming off the disabled list. Perhaps unfortunately for the Mets, it’s Oliver Perez.
In the notes, young outfielder Fernando Martinezcould soon replace Perez on the DL because of a sore knee.
