The Mets headed into the All-Star break on a bit of a high note after Sunday’s 9-7 victory over the Reds at Citi Field included a strong outing from Mike Pelfrey, another surprising display of offense and gave them a two-game win streak.

Colleague Joel Sherman writes that, although on-the-horizon comebacks of Carlos Delgado and Jose Reyes offer hope, time is running short for the Mets.

At least the Mets showed some power, hitting a pair of home runs Sunday that ended their 80-inning drought and showed the limits of the Home Run Apple. In the notes, Jeff Francoeur is just two games into his Mets tenure but already providing a lift.

Meanwhile, colleague Kevin Kernan caught up with Wilmer Flores in St. Louis after the 17-year-old Mets prospect started at shortstop and went 0-for-2 in the Futures Game on Sunday.
