Coverage in The Post
On the same day it first became widely known that Fred Wilpon lost $700 million in the Bernie Madoff scheme, David Wright told The Post that he hopes to remain a Met for the rest of his career. We’ll see if Wilpon still has the coin to make that happen.
Wright went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a strikeout in the NL’s 4-3 loss in the All-Star Game in St. Louis on Tuesday. Johan Santana did not pitch, while Frankie Rodriguez threw a perfect ninth.
Meanwhile, reliever Billy Wagner told colleague Mark Hale that he doesn’t expect to have a prominent role in the Mets’ bullpen once his ongoing rehab from Tommy John surgery is finished.
Pedro Martinez‘s long-discussed signing with the rival Phillies is now a done deal. Pedro will open on the 15-day DL (insert joke here) to work his way back into big-league pitching shape. Lastly, a source told The Post that Citi Field will host the 2013 All-Star Game.
