Everything else has happened to the Mets this season, so why not the first unassisted triple play since 1927 to end a game? The Phillies’ Eric Bruntlett pulled it off Sunday in the ninth inning to bring a stunning end to the Mets’ 9-7 loss at Citi Field.
The triple play overshadowed a hideous outing by Oliver Perez, which made the Mets look even worse because it came against Pedro Martinez. Colleague Brian Costello writes that the Perez signing this offseason is looking like a colossal mistake.
