The Mets have a quick turnaround today, which means there isn’t much time to savor Gary Sheffield‘s 500th home run Friday night or the 5-4 come from behind win over the Padres that it came in. Sheffield picked the perfect time for his historic homer, which set the stage for the 5-5 Mets’ much-needed win.

Meanwhile, Willie Randolph is in the house this weekend as bench coach for the Brewers. That prompted colleague George Willis to opine that Randolph has moved on while the Mets still appear haunted by their recent past.

In the notes, Mike Pelfrey remains on track to miss his start Sunday due to forearm tendinitis. Reliever Darren O’Day appears to be the odd man out.

In our weekly Saturday Mets feature, reliever Sean Green is in the spotlight as the only major-league player in the history of the University of Louisville baseball program.
