D-day on tap for Maine
ATLANTA — The Mets are giving John Maine one last look Saturday before deciding whether to activate the right-hander or shut him down for the rest of the season. Maine will throw a one-inning simulation here Saturday afternoon, firing 15-20 pitches to three hitters. If the bone spur pressing on his right rotator cuff doesnât hold him back, Maine could be activated Monday and assume a one-inning relief role the final week of the regular season and the playoffs, if the Mets make it that far.
Pitching coach Dan Warthen, though, told reporters this afternoon that he thinks the odds are against Maine pitching again this season. Maine has been on the DL since late last month due to the bone spur.
