David Robertson rejected the Yankees’ $15.3 million qualifying offer ahead of Monday’s deadline, the team announced.
The Yankees can continue trying to hammer out a multi-year contract with the free-agent right-hander, who turns 30 next April.
In his first season as the team’s closer in 2014, Robertson converted 39 of 44 save chances. He went 4-5 with a 3.04 ERA and 13.4 strikeouts per nine innings.
In the three offseasons of the current collective bargaining agreement, none of the 34 players to receive qualifying offers have accepted.
