David Wright announced Thursday he will be done playing after a brief return later this month. Here are 10 moments that defined his memorable career:

Mets debut

A new era began for the Mets on July 21, 2004, when Wright made his big-league debut, joining fellow top prospect Jose Reyes on the left side of the infield.

Grab against Padres

Wright’s barehanded catch while sprinting into shallow left field with a dive on a blooper hit by Brian Giles on Aug. 9, 2005, remains one of the great highlights of his career.

2006 All-Star Game

In his first career All-Star Game at-bat, Wright clocked a Kenny Rogers pitch for a homer the day after reaching the Home Run Derby final, where he lost to Ryan Howard.

2006 NLCS struggles

Following an All-Star season, Wright struggled in the postseason, especially in the NLCS, going 4-for-25 with two RBIs and just two extra-base hits in the seven-game series loss to the Cardinals.

All-time Mets hits leader

Wright became the Mets’ all-time leader in hits Sept. 26, 2012, with an infield single against the Pirates, passing Ed Kranepool’s 1,418. His tally currently stands at 1,777.

World Baseball Classic — Captain America

He earned the splashy nickname after tearing up the 2013 event, leading the tournament in RBIs with 10, which included a grand slam against Italy.

Named captain

On March 21, 2013, Wright was named the fourth Mets captain in franchise history, joining Keith Hernandez (1987-89), Gary Carter (1988-1989) and John Franco (2001-04).

Injuries

From spinal stenosis in 2015 to neck surgery a year later and rotator cuff surgery in September 2017, it was one major medical issue after another leading up to this point.

2015 return

In his first at-bat after missing 115 games with spinal stenosis, Wright blasted a mammoth 428-foot homer, setting the stage for a 16-7 romp over the Phillies in Philadelphia.

World Series homer

Wright homered in the only World Series victory of his career, launching a two-run shot off Yordano Ventura in the first inning of Game 3 in 2015, igniting a 9-3 victory that cut the Royals’ series lead to 2-1.
