Davis finally goes yard
It only took him 282 at-bats, but Ike Davis, the Mets’ top draft pick in last year’s First-Year Player Draft, hit his first professional home run yesterday in High-A St. Lucie’s 4-3 win over Jupiter. Davis hit a solo shot in the fifth inning of yesterday’s game to break the streak, which stretched back over 75 professional games to his selection as the No. 18 overall pick by the Mets out of Arizona State last year.
After a rough 2008 for Brooklyn at the plate (.256, 17 RBI in 55 games), Davis has performed better, outside of his home run totals, for St. Lucie this season. Through 18 games, the 6-foor-5 left-hander is hitting .279 with the one homer and five RBI.
