OK, I told you that it is hard to go 25-for-25 in picking the roster for Opening Day on the first day of spring training.

Already, my picks feel outdated. The Yanks signed Ron Villone to a minor league contract today. I think his presence makes it even stronger that the Yanks will trade either Mike Myers or Sean Henn sometime during this camp – perhaps for a backup catcher.

What is more interesting about Villone’s signing – immediately anyway – is what it meant in the clubhouse. To put Villone on the main locker side with other veteran pitchers, the clubhouse guys removed Jose Veras. They had to find a place for Veras, and they moved his locker to the one in the right corner as soon as you enter the clubhouse. That was the one that had been occupied for years by Bernie Williams.

Thus, it was another strong sign of change; that Williams is not in the plans.
