KISSIMMEE – Carlos Delgado’s mission will be to get new bedding.
Because of a stiff neck, the first baseman wasn’t able to make the trip here yesterday for the Mets’ 7-2 win over the Astros.
“I woke up with a stiff neck, so it didn’t make any sense to go all the way to Kissimmee if you can’t swing or if you can’t play,” he said. “So I just stayed back and took my treatment.”
Delgado admitted his sleeping situation may have caused the problem, saying, “I need a new pillow.”
“I was like, ‘Damn, this is not comfortable,’ ” he said. “And I woke up, it was a little sore.”
Delgado also had a huge ice pack on his left elbow – he had surgery on it in the offseason – but said it was fine.

In yesterday’s win, Tom Glavine pitched three scoreless innings (he’s thrown five scoreless this spring), while Jorge Sosa – who’s among the rotation contenders – fired two shutout frames. Billy Wagner and Aaron Heilman also pitched a scoreless inning apiece as the Mets hiked their record to 3-4 this spring.
Offensively, minor league first baseman Mike Carp drilled a three-run double and a two-run double. After the game, Willie Randolph praised the 20-year-old Carp, saying, “He kind of reminds me a little bit of [former Yankee] Nick Johnson in his approach.”
Carp, who hails from Long Beach, Calif., was the Mets’ minor league player of the year last season, hitting .287 with 17 homers in high-A St. Lucie. He believes he’ll start this year at Double-A Binghamton. Top outfield prospect Carlos Gomez also hit his first homer of the spring, a solo shot.
Chan Ho Park‘s visa has arrived. The South Korean right-hander is slated to pitch today against the Red Sox in his Mets spring debut. Boston is scheduled to pitch Tim Wakefield and Jonathan Papelbon.
