Tonight’s 6-3 win over the Nationals included quite a rarity — a bunt single by career slugger Carlos Delgado. Taking advantage of a severe infield shift, Delgado laid down the bunt to the third-base side for an easy hit after Moises Alou had singled in front of him to lead off the inning.
Willie Randolph said the bunt was entirely Delgado’s idea.
“He did that on his own,” Randolph said. “I like that. He should have been doing that a long time ago, actually. His technique wasnât great, but there was an ocean [of room] out there.”
