A quick wrap-up from Vero Beach after a Mets lineup filled with minor leaguers and backups rallied for a 6-5 victory over the Dodgers:
1. An Angel Pagan single with two outs in the top of the ninth drove in Ruben Gotay with the winning run as the Mets improved to 2-3 in Grapefruit League play after a 0-3 start. The Amazinâs scored three runs in the ninth, then saw non-roster pitcher Joselo Diaz toss a scoreless bottom half for the victory.
2. Mike Pelfrey, who was strong in his debut last Wednesday against the Tigers and appears ready to steal the No. 5 rotation spot away from El Duque, gets his second start tomorrow in Port St. Lucie against the Braves. That game will be broadcast live in New York on SNY. Billy Wagner also is scheduled to pitch for the Mets.
3. The Dodgers, who are leaving Dodgertown after 61 years for a new complex in Glendale, Ariz., honored Steve Garvey with his own day today. Garvey threw out the first pitch, and the line for autographs stretched from behind home plate to beyond the outfield berm. No word on whether Garvey fathered any more children on the way out here.
