TAMPA — Derek Jeter walked into the Yankees’ minor league complex Friday after learning he had a new fracture in his left ankle Thursday.
Jeter said “of course” when asked if he was disappointed with the news. He plans to visit with Dr. Robert Anderson, the doctor who performed the surgery, in Charlotte and come to The Bronx on Thursday when the Yankees return from their road trip.
The shortstop, who will be out until the All-Star break, had been doing drills since being shut down in March after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired left ankle.
Lingering discomfort after three straight days of fielding grounders and running lightly in the outfield led to Jeter going to to see Dr. Anderson yesterday.
While he won’t need more surgery, Jeter will have to back off in his rehab.
