SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Domingo German’s days as a Yankee are officially over.
German elected free agency on Monday instead of accepting an outright assignment, the Yankees announced, after the right-hander cleared through waivers.
While German had one year left of team control, he spent the final two months of this season on the restricted list to seek treatment for alcohol abuse following a clubhouse incident at Yankee Stadium.
The 31-year-old had previously served an 81-game suspension in 2019 and 2020 for violating the league’s domestic violence policy.
German, who threw a perfect game against the Athletics in June, posted a 4.41 ERA across parts of six seasons with the Yankees.
In addition to German, the Yankees announced that Franchy Cordero, Billy McKinney, Jimmy Cordero, Matt Bowman and Ryan Weber also elected free agency on Monday instead of accepting an outright assignment.

The 24-year-old would have been eligible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft if the Yankees had not placed him on the 40-man roster.
