Although the investigation into the accident that killed the father of new Mets GM Sandy Alderson in St. Petersburg, Fla., is ongoing, no criminal charges will be filed against the driver, according to St. Petersburg police.

“There was no evidence that any crime took place,” police spokesman Mike Puetz said.

The driver, Jeffrey W. Lachance of St. Petersburg, could face a civil driving citation if the investigation shows any sign of wrongdoing in the accident that killed John Alderson.

The 87-year-old Alderson was struck by a Jeep as he tried to cross a street shortly before midnight and died at Bayfront Medical Center 45 minutes later.
