TORONTO — The Yankees’ first-base outlook became a little more cloudy on Monday with Dustin Ackley heading to the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury.
Ackley suffered the injury in the Yankees’ 2-1 victory Sunday in Tampa Bay, forcing Mark Teixeira, who has not started the past five games because of neck spasms, to enter the game.
Ackley will be examined Tuesday by Yankees doctor Chris Ahmad to determine what exactly the injury is. The team said it was a dislocated shoulder, but manager Joe Girardi called it a torn labrum.
“He will see Dr. Ahmad and we will have a better idea but he has a torn labrum. That’s usually not too good,’’ Girardi said. “Surgery is a possibility, yeah. My thought: It will not be a quick heal.’’
