A suspect in the shooting of former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was charged with “attempted homicide” and “criminal association” in connection to the violence in the Dominican Republic, a report said.

Eddy Feliz Garcia confessed to having a role in Sunday’s shooting but claimed that he was not the one who pulled the trigger, according to ABC News.

Garcia’s lawyer, Bunel Ramirez Meran, insisted that Garcia was innocent.

The suspect fled the nightclub after Ortiz was shot and was attacked by bystanders. He was turned over to police and taken to a hospital for treatment.

It wasn’t clear if Garcia was seen on video pulling the trigger.

Ortiz was recovering on Tuesday at a Boston hospital where he underwent a second surgery for his injuries.
