Not only did the Mets call up Nick Evans from Double-A Binghamton, but they are throwing the 22-year-old right into the fire. Evans, primarily a first baseman in the minor leagues, will be the Mets’ starting left fielder here today against the Rockies and hit eighth in the lineup. The Mets are short-handed in the outfield due to injuries this week to left fielder Marlon Anderson (hamstring) and right fielder Ryan Church (concussion).
