Red Sox first baseman Steve Pearce got to experience what a true home-field advantage looks like while in Baltimore on Wednesday night.
The series-capping game between the Red Sox and Orioles was postponed due to rain, so a fan was the only one in the stadium to take home a victory. While running to catch a fly ball, Pearce suddenly stopped short, and the ball landed behind him. In the video, it appears a fan fooled the 35-year-old with the classic, “I got it!”
“I don’t know if he missed it or if he heard someone in the stands call it,” said one announcer.
Stunned and visibly annoyed, Pearce glared into the stands after looking to a trailing Mookie Betts and Brock Holt.
Luckily for Pearce, the postponement makes it as if it never happened.
