If you find yourself scrolling through your fantasy baseball team’s statistics and wonder how in the world your offense could be this bad, you are not alone. Overall run production is down, and stars like Charlie Blackmon and Marcell Ozuna are batting under .200 in April. Thanks for that deadened ball, MLB. We’re really enjoying it.

With everyone in your league struggling with the power categories at the same rate, you need to find your offensive edge in stolen bases. In an attempt to jump-start their offenses, teams are emphasizing their running games more, and the results have generated a higher success rate than in the past.

Typically, the base-line success rate for steals is 72-74 percent. This season, it is hovering around 78 percent, which obviously has translated to more stolen bases for fantasy teams. Your task is to now find which teams and players you should target to add to your totals.

The first place you should look is which teams have the highest stolen base attempts. The Padres lead the way with 40, followed by the Royals (27), Rangers (25), Marlins (24) and Athletics (23). Identifying players like Whit Merrifield, Ramon Laureano and Jazz Chisholm is easy. But understanding you can get a boost with the likes of Wil Myers, Andrew Benintendi and Isiah Kiner-Falefa means you can trade for steals without paying the price for a burner.

You should also be looking at stolen base efficiency for teams. The Indians, Giants and Blue Jays rank in the top five for efficiency, so though they may not have as many attempts as the Padres, their success is helping boost fantasy totals. Eddie Rosario, Marcus Semien and Austin Slater should be trade targets if you need a boost.

And finally, you should be looking at which teams are allowing the most stolen bases. The Dodgers, Rays, Tigers, Mariners and Pirates lead the way for this dubious distinction, which means you should be checking the schedule to see who they are facing in the coming weeks. The Cubs and Angels are facing a few of these teams, which should put Javier Baez and Shohei Ohtani on your radar.

Fantasy baseball is a numbers game, plain and simple. If everyone is struggling for power, you need to pick up points elsewhere. If MLB offers you that help in the form of stolen bases, you have to act now before your league mates catch on.
