As the month of August comes to a close, fantasy baseball owners are preparing for that final push toward the championship.

Those in roto leagues should be honing in on the categories in which they can move up the most, and those in head-to-head leagues should be sizing up their potential playoff opponents while structuring their rosters to establish an advantage.

Which categories you need a boost in is, obviously, specific to your team, but it seems like every year, stolen bases remain at a premium and should be a target for most.

If you need stolen bases and your league’s trade deadline has yet to pass, there are a variety of players to acquire, all at varying costs. Adding Starling Marte would be a coup if you can pull it off. Having spent his entire career on losing teams, the 32-year-old outfielder is rejuvenated and tearing it up for the Athletics. Through 19 games, he is batting .341, but more importantly, he already has stolen 13 bases and is showing no signs of slowing down. The price tag is going to be steep, but if you’re loaded in another category, the change to your team could be huge.

Other potential trade targets at the top-priced tier include Trea Turner, Ozzie Albies and even Luis Robert, whose return to the White Sox lineup has been a boon for his fantasy owners. A surplus of power or pitching could fetch one of these burners, and if your league is similar to most others, one player of this caliber could significantly vault you up the standings.

If the price for one of the aforementioned speedsters is too high, there are plenty of others who won’t cost you an arm or a leg. You may even be able to find someone on waivers, depending on whether your league mates are paying enough attention. Royals infielder Nicky Lopez is seeing regular playing time and has five stolen bases in just this past week. The Indians are playing with nothing to lose, which means Myles Straw, Oscar Mercado and Bradley Zimmer have the green light. You may even want to take a look at Angels infielder David Fletcher or the Orioles’ Jorge Mateo.

At this point of the season, no stone should be left unturned if you’re looking to add speed. Bottom-feeding teams are running more as kids audition for future roles and veterans on top teams are looking for new contracts and World Series rings. Stolen bases may be at a premium, but you can still find them for the stretch run.
