Mets reliever Pedro Feliciano was unavailable to pitch in a key situation in the seventh inning today because of family issues in Puerto Rico. The Mets excused Feliciano to return to his native country on Monday, the team’s off day, with the expectation he would be back in time for today’s 1:10 p.m. start against the Phillies.

But Feliciano said his flight from San Juan was delayed, keeping him from arriving at Shea Stadium until the seventh inning. That left him unavailable at a crucial time, forcing the Mets to go with an ineffective Scott Schoeneweis.

Schoeneweis surrendered a 2-0 lead in that inning as the Mets went on to suffer a 5-2 loss.
