DETROIT — The Tigers’ 4-0 loss to Texas was delayed for several minutes in the eighth inning after a female fan seated in the first row behind the Tigers’ dugout was hit by a line drive off the bat of Anthony Gose.
After lengthy attention from three paramedics, she was attended to by medical personnel and appeared to be alert as she was taken away strapped to a chair with a neck brace. She was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital for observation, and the Tigers reported after the game that she was conscious and alert.

A half-inning later, a broken bat also flew into the stands behind the Tigers’ dugout, but no one was seriously injured.
Justin Verlander, who was the starting pitcher in Detroit’s latest tough loss, had more on his mind than the game.
Verlander called for enhanced safety measure at major-league parks, both while talking to reporters after the game and on Twitter.
“Something really serious needs to happen,” he told the media. “Baseball needs to make an adjustment in a hurry.”
More protective measures need to be put in place in all ball parks! Players are sick of seeing injuries that could easily be avoided!

Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos also called for changes.
“Nets need to go up around baseball, without a doubt,” he said. “If tonight doesn’t get it done, what will?”
