I was trying to think of something to write for the blog today, and I’m still trying. After last night’s game, things pretty much speak for themselves — the Mets are on the verge of an incredible collapse, and things come down to this weekend with them against the Marlins and the Phillies against the Nationals.

How do I look at the final three games? Well, I was looking at who the Marlins have pitching — Byung-Hyun Kim, Chris Seddon and Dontrelle Willis — and those are pretty favorable for the Mets. Each has an ERA ranging from 5.20 to 6.89. But last night, the Mets had Pedro Martinez facing Joel Pineiro and still lost the game.

In one of my favorite movies, “The Paper,” the radio station (I think it’s 1010, though I’m not positive) advertises, “Because your whole world can change in 24 hours.” I bring that up because it’s interesting how much things can still change again — and become more assuring — in 24 hours. If the Mets win and Philly loses tonight, suddenly the Mets look good again. We’ll see if they can manage it.
