Those Bryce Harper rumors just won’t go away.
The Yankees have been closely linked to Manny Machado this offseason, but the possibility of signing Harper still remains an outside possibility.
Count former Mets GM and SiriusXM analyst Jim Duquette among those who think it would be a good idea, despite the Yankees’ crowded outfield.
“I think Harper’s a great fit in New York,” Duquette said on MLB Network Radio. “I would not let any of the other outfielders they have get in the way of acquiring him.”
The Yankees currently have Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton for the three outfield spots plus designated hitter. The Yankees could consider moving Harper to first base as he did play one game at the position last season, but Duquette thinks he should be put in one of the outfield spots.
“I’m not letting any of those guys get in the way of signing Bryce Harper,” Duquette said. “If my owner said, ‘Go ahead and do it,’ then Harper is definitely the better fit.”
Harper is reportedly seeking a 10-year, $350 million deal and the Phillies are the favorite to sign the slugger.
