Former Yankee Hideki Matsui announced his retirement on Thursday at a press conference in midtown hotel, ending a career in which he starred on two continents.

The Japanese slugger, 38, came to the Yankees to much fanfare and spent seven seasons in Pinstripes.

He capped his final season in the Bronx by being named World Series MVP in 2009 when he hit .615 with three homers and eight RBI.

Matsui, nicknamed ‘Godzilla’ in Japan, finished his career with stints with the Angels, A’s and Rays. He hit .282 with 175 homers.
