A fully healthy group of position players lasted all of four-and-a-half innings for the Mets.
After getting J.D. Davis back Friday following his lengthy stint on the injured list with a sprained left hand, the Mets lost Francisco Lindor to injury in the fifth inning of an ugly 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. The high-priced shortstop grabbed at his right side after hitting a ground ball. He lightly jogged to first base and immediately left after returning to the dugout. He was replaced in the following inning by Luis Guillorme.
Lindor singled in his first at-bat, before grounding out in his next two trips to the plate. The Mets were overwhelmed by injuries in the first half of the season, their pitching staff and depth keeping them afloat. One of the few players not to miss time was Lindor. But now he could be out.
Francisco Lindor left early from the Mets’ game against the Pirates on Friday night. APIt was already a frustrating year for Lindor in his first season in Queens. He has struggled offensively, with a slash line of .227/.327/.377, and has heard plenty of boos. His durability and defense made up for his surprising struggles at the plate.
The one positive if Lindor misses time is that the Mets have options at shortstop. Guillorme, Jonathan Villar and Jose Peraza can all play the position.
