SAN DIEGO — The Mets will try to reverse their Petco Park bad luck here tonight when Livan Hernandez takes the mound against the Padres in the opener of a four-game series.
The Mets have lost their last five games at Petco dating the 2007 season and are just 5-12 here since the stadium opened in 2004.
Hernandez, meanwhile, is looking to keep his string of strong starts going. The journeyman right-hander is 2-0 with a 3.15 ERA in three starts since the All-Star break. Hernandez, who is 12-5 with a 4.31 ERA in 24 career starts against the Padres, will take on Clayton Richard. The San Diego lefty does not have a decision but is sporting a 1.59 ERA.
