PHOENIX — The Mets will try to salvage this miserable Western trip and avoid a three-game sweep here today when Oliver Perez takes the mound against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

The Mets have dropped five of the first six games on the swing to San Diego and Arizona, falling a season-high nine games under .500 in the process.

Perez, who is 1-5 with a 4.88 ERA in nine career starts against the Diamondbacks, will take on Jon Garland in the series finale. Garland, a veteran left-hander, is just 6-10 with a 4.33 ERA but threw a complete-game shutout against the Mets at Citi Field on Aug. 2. Here is the 52-61 Mets’ order for the 3:40 p.m. game:
