Game 123: Phillies at Mets
The Mets will honor their 1969 world champions tonight, then try to deal the first-place Phillies another Citi Field loss when Tim Redding takes the mound against impressive young right-hander JA Happ.
Redding is making his first start since being moved back into the rotation following Thursday’s release of Livan Hernandez. Redding, though, is considered merely a temporary solution, and Jerry Manuel has said the veteran righty will be evaluated on a start-to-start basis.
Redding and the Mets face a considerable chore in Happ, who is 9-2 with a 2.66 ERA in his first full season in the majors. On the plus side, Happ is 0-1 with a 5.03 ERA in five career appearances against the Amazin’s. Here is the 57-65 Mets’ order for the scheduled 7:30 p.m. game:
Angel Pagan CF
Luis Castillo 2B
Gary Sheffield RF
Jeff Francoeur RF
Fernando Tatis 3B
Daniel Murphy 1B
Omir Santos C
Wilson Valdez SS
Tim Redding RHP (1-4, 6.53)
