Game 125: Mets at Pirates
PITTSBURGH — Jose Reyes is getting the day off and Luis Ayala is in the house as the surging Mets try to complete a four-game sweep of the Pirates this afternoon. John Maine will be on the mound for the Mets, who are 6-0 on this trip going into todayâs finale and have won nine of their past 11 to go two games up on the Phillies in the NL East.
Jerry Manuel said Maine is likely to last no more than 100 pitches, so thereâs a good chance the righty Ayala will make his first appearance as a Met since being acquired from the Nationals on Sunday. The Mets sent rookie Eddie Kunz to Triple-A New Orleans to make room for Ayala.
As for the lineup, Reyes is being rested for the stretch run with the Mets in the midst of a streak of 23 consecutive games. Damion Easley is filling in at short, while second baseman Argenis Reyes will take over Jose Reyesâ leadoff spot.
Here is the overall order for the 68-56 Mets:
Argenis Reyes 2B
Nick Evans LF
David Wright 3B
Carlos Beltran CF
Carlos Delgado 1B
Fernando Tatis RF
