Game 136: Mets at Marlins
MIAMI — Mike Pelfrey will try to snap the Marlinsâ hex over him this season when he leads the Mets against Florida right-hander Ricky Nolasco here tonight in the second game of a three-game series at Dolphin Stadium. Pelfrey has challenged Johan Santana for the designation of staff ace in the second half, winning 11 of his past 13 decisions, but he is an ugly 0-3 with a 10.66 ERA in three starts against the Marlins this year. Pelfrey will be opposed by Nolasco, who is 1-1 with a 3.48 ERA in four starts against the Mets in 2008.
As for the lineup, no changes by Jerry Manuel tonight after Fridayâs gripping, 5-4 comeback win in the ninth inning that was powered by Carlos Beltranâs eighth career grand slam. Manuel did say, however, that he would be willing to pinch-hit more for right fielder Ryan Church with Church hitting just .188 in his past five games.
The Metsâ bullpen also could be short-handed tonight, with Manuel revealing that Duaner Sanchez (knee), Scott Schoeneweis (back) and fill-in closer Luis Ayala (groin) are all nursing injuries.
