Mike Pelfrey will try to put his season back on track this afternoon at Citi Field when the Mets take on the Cubs in the finale of their three-game series.

Questions about Pelfrey’s confidence and mental toughness have grown louder in the wake of the big right-hander’s past two starts, both of them lopsided losses. Pelfrey has allowed 11 earned runs in just 9 2/3 innings over that span while falling below .500 for the first time all season.

Pelfrey, who is facing the Cubs for the first time in his career, will face Randy Wells today. The Cubs’ righty has been a surprise this season, posting a 10-7 record and 2.90 ERA.
