PHILADELPHIA — Fresh off a 5-4 loss in Game 1, the Mets will try to stave off postseason elimination for another day when they take on Pedro Martinez tonight in the finale of a day-night doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park.

The Mets, whose “tragic number” is two in the NL East and one in the wild-card race, will start Tim Redding in the nightcap against the three-time Cy Young winner.

Redding, who is 5-3 with a 3.13 ERA in 13 career starts against the Phillies, was signed this winter by the Mets after they decided to pass on Martinez. That hasn’t worked out so well as Pedro has posted a 4-0 record and 3.64 ERA for the Phillies in his first six starts.
